I am that matchless pearl unseen by the sea,
I am that drop within which is the sea

Come see waves wondrous, view seas invisible,
How endless oceans can hide within a drop

In the field of love did the Friend hang me tress-like

In this world of plurality You are Yusuf and I Ya’qub,
In that world of Unity is neither Yusuf nor Can’aan

Before Majnun ever uttered Layla in meter,
There I was where no Layla or Majnun ever were

Before Ya, Nun, Sin ever joined or Life ever fell into this well,
Drunk in Love we arrived, Drunk as so we shall depart

That Yunus I am named is this body’s tragedy,
Ask my essence then, I am that Sultan of Sultans
